LET GO (5/12/24)
From the sermon, “Let Go, Leaving Behind What We Don’t Need,” here are
3 ideas, 2 quotes, and 1 question.
FIRST IDEA: LETTING GO IS AN ACT OF LIBERATION
Letting go is an internal mechanism that liberates us from the burden of
harmful habits, unrealistic self-expectations, or unforgiveness. The butterfly
will need to let go of the branch its clinging to so it can use its wings and fly.
SECOND IDEA: LETTING GO OPENS THE FIELD OF THE UNFAMILIAR
Sometimes we want to go back to yesterday, not because today is harder,
but because today is unfamiliar. Yesterday’s suffering sems better that the
discomfort of the unknown.
THIRD IDEA: LETTING GO RELEASES US TO SERVICE
The more we let go, the more we create space for empathy to wake up. It’s
like something inside of us is reactivated. We go from survival (focus on
self), to missional (directed to others).
TWO QUOTES
“Sometimes, letting go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on” (Eckhart Tolle).
“Pain that is not transformed is transmitted” (Richard Rohr).
ONE QUESTION
Instead of giving up, what burden can you give over to God to entrust?
