Gold Award for disability access awarded to FCUMC
The Pacific Northwest Conference Disability Ministries Committee awarded a gold
badge to Fairwood Community UMC based on the accessibility audit for United
Methodist Churches and a site review. This badge is a sign that our congregation
has gone beyond the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and strives to provide
accessible space and appropriate accommodations to disabled people through
intentional measures and ministries. It is a recognition that continued improvement
is possible and that such purposeful actions are being planned based on the gifts,
needs, and context of our members and community.
We are living into our commitment to actively become anti-ableist as wed strive to
become evermore inclusive. Contact Don M. or John M. with suggestions of
improvements.
Thank you to our Trustees, current and previous, who lead the projects to make
our facilities disability friendly!
Swing by Youth Room Hallway to get to know the youth/leaders and learn how you can contribute
Visit the back hallway in Benedict Hall and get to know the amazing youth and
youth leaders. You’ll also find ways to support the youth ministry.
New Nursery Attendant Ella
- Our new Sunday morning nursery attendant caring for our littlest ones is Ella. Stop
by and introduce yourself to Ella.
We bless our previous attendant, Isobel, as she continues her education out-ofstate.
Youth Lock in Sept 27-28
in grades 6-12! RSVP to attend the youth lock-in on Friday, September 27
(6:00 p.m.) to Saturday, September 28 (2:00 p.m.). Scan the QR code to RSVP.
A current registration form is required. Get one outside the illumin8 room (BH-3) in
Benedict Hall.
Friday night features food, games and “general shenanigans.”
Saturday morning features a trip to the Museum of Flight.
The lock-in costs $25 per person and this covers entry to the Museum of Flight and
offsets the cost of food.
We suggest you bring: sleeping bag and pillow, water bottle, personal hygiene
items, comfy clothes for sleeping and for the museum, a jacket or other outerwear,
sturdy shoes for walking, and a peanut-free snack to share.

Children who are Pre-Kindergarten through 4th grade will meet in BH-2 (on left
side of hallway) with Kristin T. and Jenny B. - 5th and 6th graders will meet in BH-5 (on right side of hallway) with Kartha H.

Youth Choir Practices start Sunday Sept 22nd.
We are excited to start Youth Choir practices on Sunday, Sep. 22nd after church in
the choir room (11:15-11:50).
All 5th – 12th grade youth are invited to join us each Sunday! It’s a new school
year so it’s a great time to try something new even if you have never sung with us.
Bring your friends as well, no prior choir experience necessary. We focus on
contemporary Christian music.
We plan to sing this fall on Oct. 20th and Nov. 17th and Christmas Eve.
For more information contact Bill & Lori at bill.mcewen@comcast.net.
