Join our Thanksgiving Sharing drive for Renton Salvation Army Food
Bank! Bring donations Nov 9 – 16.
Captain James from the Salvation Army Food Bank says that this year, instead of
having 200 chosen Thanksgiving Families, they are going to open it up to all SA
clients. There will be a Thanksgiving wall of traditional Thanksgiving food and
turkeys for all from Nov 10-20. You can help with this by making food
donations or $$$ donations for S.A. to buy turkeys.

Thanksgiving”.

Advent Book Study
Join our 5-week Advent book study: The First Advent in Palestine: Reversals,
Resistance, and the Ongoing Complexity of Hope, by Kelley Nikondeha.
The author is a liberation theologian who combines biblical texts and cultural
contexts to discover insights for embodied justice, community engagement, and
living faith. Nikondeha invites us to rediscover the story of Jesus’ birth within its
real-world context—amid the struggle, occupation, and resilience of first-century
Palestine. Through her thoughtful reflections, we see how the Advent story speaks
to our world today—calling us to embody peace, compassion, and justice in
tangible ways.
If you get your book through the church with our bulk order, they will be $14 and
payment can be paid to the church, noting “Advent study.”
We’ll meet 5 weeks, November 18 – December 16, Tuesday mornings, 9:30 –
11:00am. We meet both in-person (in the parlor) and on Zoom.
Please let Pastor Cathy know if you’re interested in joining us so that you get all the
information from her. Look for a sign-up sheet in the entryway. If at least 6 people
are interested, Pastor Cathy may offer a session after worship on Sundays.
Worship Order Changed
The Worship Committee received feedback that generated thoughtful consideration
at two or our recent meetings. We hope to offer the prelude music as a more
meaningful element of the worship experience by connecting it to the Call to
Worship.
So, effective now, the start of our worship services will be: Immediately after the
countdown time (i.e. 10:00), the Lay Reader will welcome worshippers, offer any
verbal announcements, then invite the congregation to Pass the Peace of Christ.
Then we’ll move into the Prelude with the light of Christ and the pastor entering
the sanctuary. Following the Prelude, we’ll then share in the Call to Worship.
Another change we’re making is to present any Mission Moment after the offering.
The offering is our time to respond to God with our gifts, gifts of money and our
time and prayers. This puts the Mission Moment in the context of offering ourselves
as our response to God’s gifts to us.
We welcome any feedback. Please contact our worship leaders with any feedback
for our worship experiences at FCUMC!
