Let's Serve Breakfast In Seattle
First United Methodist Church in Seattle (aka First Church) provides a hot and
delicious breakfast to any and all on Sunday mornings known as Shared Breakfast.
Our most recent youth Confirmation class assisted in the serving of one such
breakfast last May and First Church has invited our congregation to return and
serve again!
The next opportunity is Sunday, August 30. We will arrive there at 7am and finish
about 9:20am, which leaves just enough time to scoot back to Fairwood for 10:00
worship service! We are also invited to hang out and attend 10:30 worship service
at First Church. “Jobs” include things like food prep, food packaging (meals are
boxed for take-out, but diners may eat-in or take-out), snack bag prep, and trash
vs. recycle pre-sorting. 4-5 severs are need for 8/30. Let me know if you can serve
and if you can offer or wish to join a car pool from Fairwood to Seattle and back.
Call or text me and be sure to include your name.
Thanks,
Dwight Clark (425) 681-0225
PS - Also, please let me know if you would like to be on a “call list” for possible
serving opportunities in the future!

Worship Attendance Listening Session - 8/23/26 11:30am
We’d love to hear from you! With our in-person worship attendance mostly leveling
off, we’re wondering what your thoughts are. Join us for a listening session on
Sunday, August 23 after worship, about 11:30am. Donna Stock will be facilitating
the session. Contact her if you can’t attend that Sunday.
In the meantime, know that we’re not trying to “fix” anything at this point. We’re
simply wondering what you’re thinking. The following questions are just to get the
reflection started. For more info, see Pastor Ferdie’s July Epistle article about
“Worship Attendance” or the Thursday newsletter email.
Where does worship attendance fit with our church values?
What does “vital worship” look like to you?
What part of our Sunday morning helps you connect most deeply with God or with
our faith community?

PNW Disaster Relief Fund
Hundreds of homes and lives have been forever changed by the wildfires that
broke out across Eastern Washington and the Spokane area on August 1, the most
devastating in a summer marked by fires and disasters across our region. As
containment increases there, recovery for Spokane and other affected communities
is only beginning, and your prayers, presence, and gifts make that walk alongside
them possible.
Please consider donating to the wildfire relief effort by giving to the PNW Disaster
Relief Fund (Advance #352).
This helps our Conference disaster response coordinators to help people in times
like these.
Please see the Thursday weekly newsletter email for the link, or our
fairwoodumc.org website’s GIVE page.

Teens and Tweens Summer Meet Up - Today
Our next Teen and Tween Summer Ice Cream meet up is today after Worship!
Join us at Baskin Robbins in Fairwood after worship at 11:30 to meet up, chat and
connect before summer ends!

Discovery Class Starts today - Sunday 8/16/26 11:30am
For the next round of membership learning opportunity, Pastor Ferdie wants to
offer a 2-part series called, “Discover Class.” Each session of 90 minutes includes
inspiring and vital contents about our faith, fellowship, and mission. Each session
contains discipleship components that are relevant to faith formation.
Here is the breakdown:
Discover our Statements, Stories, & Scriptures (August 16, Sunday 11:30 a.m.)
Discover our Structures & Services (August 30, Sunday 11:30 a.m.)
So, this class can be for both long-timers and newcomers. If you’ve already been a
long-time member, but missed opportunities for learning the foundation of our faith
and the framework of our beloved community, come and join us! If you are a
newcomer, and you are curious to know more about our church core identity, come
and join us! If you are interested or have questions, please email Pastor Ferdie at
pastorferdie@fairwoodumc.org. I’ll look forward to hearing from you!
