Mission Statement Series

As we begin a new season, we invite you to unpack with us the mission statement we recite each week. Our mission statement will be the focus of September’s sermon series. Through this series, we will be reminded of our deepest values, identity, and purpose. Through this series, I hope that we will be infused with renewed energy as we hear once again God’s call to action clearly and inspiringly.

From our mission statement come four core principles, each carrying a one-line phrase:

  • FAITH: We are a community that provides faith formation through worship and discipleship.
  • FELLOWSHIP: We are a community that creates inclusive connections that’s open to all.
  • SERVICE: We are a community that offers opportunities for ministry and missional engagement.
  • SOCIAL JUSTICE: We are a community that is committed to intersectional justice work.

As Ted Bolsinger said, “A mission statement is a tool, not a T-shirt. It is not a motto or a marketing pitch.” It is the North Star for our collective journey. We can say therefore that September is a reactivation of who we are. Not just for the sake of fulfilling a religious duty.

But the rediscovery of our collective identity as a church permeates back meaning to our own personal sphere and circles of connection with family, friends, and neighbors.

Say it with me: “We build community through Christian faith, fellowship, service, and social justice, where all belong.” We hope you’ll join us in September.
